Q:   How does the Prolitec technology work?

A:   Prolitec combines state-of-the-art chemistry with proprietary computer-controlled delivery systems to provide clients unprecedented flexibility in enhancing indoor air quality. Here is how it works: Prolitec’s delivery system injects a small quantity of liquid odor neutralizer, fragrance, or some other air treatment agent into the space being treated, directly or though an air handling system. The result is a tiny one part per million (ppm) concentration of the product in the air. Unlike aerosol sprays and many other methods of odor treatment, Prolitec does not use potentially harmful VOCs (volatile organic compounds) that are typical of many air freshener aerosols.

Core to Prolitec delivery systems is a patented micro-droplet generator and process which uses air pressure and a patented venturi-type system to convert aqueous or non-aqueous liquid air treatment agents into plumes of droplets measuring about 1 micron in diameter. These droplets blend with and uniformly treat the air in indoor spaces to neutralize odors or create a scent effect with ultra-low concentrations. The entire process is controlled by an on-board computer functioning independently or in conjunction with a buildings automation system. Top

Q:   How about safety?

A:   Prolitec’s air treatment agents utilize proprietary odor neutralizing ingredients, a wide range of natural and synthetic fragrances, and other air treatment chemicals all of which are completely free of harmful VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and safe for use in human-occupied spaces. If used as directed in Prolitec appliances and in observance of the simple handling precautions set forth in the material safety data sheets (MSDS) that are provided, they are all safe for use in human-occupied spaces. Q:   What differentiates Prolitec’s technology from its competition?

A:   With Prolitec, it is no longer necessary to saturate a space with heavy concentrations of scent and environmentally unfriendly volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in order to deal with odors and create a pleasing scent ambience.

Prolitec’s micro-droplet generation technology represents a genuine breakthrough in the aerosolizing of liquids for air treatment applications including Odor Remediation, Ambient Scenting, Restroom Hygiene, Product Advertising, and Aromatherapy and Performance. The essence of this breakthrough is the tiny droplets and the ability to produce them in consistent diameters and quantities from both aqueous and non-aqueous liquids. In air treatment applications, these droplets serve as highly efficient transport vehicles for fragrances, odor neutralizers and other air treatment agentts to blend with the ambient air in indoor spaces.

Conventional aerosols produce relatively large and heavy droplets that vary in size between 30 and 100 microns in diameter. Prolitec droplets consistently measure less than 1 micron (1). Relative to a conventional aerosol droplet of, say, 50 microns diameter, the Prolitec droplet is 1/50 th the size, 1/125,000 the weight (2) and presents to the air 50 times more exposed surface area per unit of volume (3), making it effective at ultra-low concentrations of less than one part per million (1 ppm).

Importantly, the Prolitec droplet is produced with very low pressure and no heat , insuring that the original chemical compound is not altered in any way. The Prolitec droplete is delivered into the air without the use of harmful VOCs as propellants for aerosolizing.

Droplet size makes a significant difference in air treatment performance. Here’s why: Unlike heavier aerosol droplets which fall to the surface within minutes, Prolitec’s much smaller and very much lighter droplets behave like a “dry” gas, remaining airborne for many hours (4) blending uniformly throughout an indoor space and without leaving surface deposits.

A 50 times greater exposed surface-area-to-volume ratio gives the smaller Prolitec dropelt a huge performance advantage over the conventional aerosol. More surface area means more contact between the air treatment agent and the air being treated. It means that ultra-low concentrations of chemical compounds amounting to less than one part per million (1 ppm) – well below allergenic and toxicity thresholds - achieve excellent odor remediation and scenting results.

Control of dropelt size and number are critical to maintaining the head-space concentration levels so important in air treatment applications. Prolitec’s micro-droplet generation technology can produce output from immeasurably low quantities to 10 liters per hour. This technology also controls dropelt size by rejecting all that are too large. The onboard computer system is programmable to control flow rate and output. Top

  1. Actual diameters are between 800 and 1,200 nanometers.
  2. This can be calculated using the formula for the volume of a sphere - V=лr 3(4/3)
  3. The surface area of 1 50um particle i s 7.85e-9 m^2 while the area of 125,000 1 um dropelt (same volume) is 3.93e-7 m^2. The surface area is therefore 50 times greater for the 125,000 1 um droplets than for the single 50 um droplet.
  4. It is estimated that a 1 micron droplet requires 14 hours to fall 6 feet.

Q:   What about installation and maintenance?

A:   Prolitec handles all installation and maintenance of the appliances. In large spaces, such as hotel lobbies and casinos, the appliances are typically installed in the air handling and conditioning system (HVAC). In smaller spaces, such as restrooms and hotel rooms, appliances are wall omounted on or concealed behind a wall, in a utility closet or in a cartridge air conditioner. In concealed installations, the droplet output is “piped” into the space to be treated with a small plastic tube. Prolitec appliances operate on standard mains electrical service 110V or 220V AC of current. The client is asked to install the necessary AC power outlets in locations specified by Prolitec.

The single-board computer inside the appliance maintains all operating parameters and schedules. It is programmed at installation and can be reprogrammed if necessary in subsequent maintenance sessions. Replacement of air care product cartridges is done as part of the monthly maintenance routine.

Q:   I have a space with a bad odor. How does Prolitec deal with it? And how do I know it will work? Can I just get rid of the odor? Do I have to use a scent?

A:   The first step is to determine the source of the odor and the normal pattern of air flow in the space. Most situations have the same kind of odor sources and Prolitec is very familiar with addressing them. Determining the air flow pattern often requires some onsite testing and sometimes an air sample is needed to evaluate the odor source and determine the optimal Odor Remediation solution. Prolitec technicians handle the onsite visit, usually without charge to the client.

Once the odor source is known, Prolitec formulates a specific neutralizer to deal with it. The client signs a service contract and Prolitec installs a system. The Client determines if it works. If it the client is not satisfied, the contract can be cancelled in the first thirty (30) days of service.

Of course, everything smells like something and even a neutralized odor smells fresh and clean. If the client wants a specific scent added, there is a wide range of choice.

Prolitec technology is used to freshen and clean the air and remediate odors in large spaces such as the huge restrooms in entertainment facilites and the gaming floors in Las Vegas. Top

Q:   What makes Prolitec’s approach to interior space odor remediation more effective than HEPA and other small particle filtering?

A:   Even the most advanced filtering systems cannot remove odor sources that have deposited on surfaces within an interior space. Porous surfaces like fabrics and ceiling tiles are traps for odorous substances. Even the interior surfaces of air handling ducts acquire deposits of smoke tars and other odor causing substances. To address these odors, an air treatment solution is required. Prolitec’s approach is to treat the air with less than one part per million (ppm) of an air care product that is completely free of harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and, in the ultra-low concentrations used, is safe and non-allergenic. Top

Q:   Will air conditioning filters interfere with Prolitec’s air treatment service?

A:   No, filters do not interfere with the air treatment application. Top

Q:   Will increasing the air handing system ventilation rate help to remove or reduce odors?

A:   Ventilation rate is the percentage of circulated air that is fresh air. Yes, fresh air ventilation is very important. It helps with odors but it does not eliminate all of them. Even 100% fresh air will not eliminate odors from odor sources that have deposited inside the air ducts as well as carpets, draperies, fabrics, ceiling tiles and other porous surfaces that are not part of the daily cleaning routine. Top

Q:   How does Prolitec handle large spaces like hotel lobbies, casino floors and theatres?

A:   The best way to treat the air in any space is by mixing the treatment product with the air in the air handler or HVAC system. A major advantage of Prolitec’s technology is that it is safe for use inside the air handling system. Prolitec can use the air handling system as the distribution system for treated air. Prolitec’s micro-scale particles are “injected” into the mixing chamber of an air handler; this is the chamber where air returned from the treated spaces and fresh air are blended before going back to the treated space. Prolitec’s droplets are so small they behave like a “dry” aerosol blending with the air stream completely and leaving no deposits in the ducts, the fan blades or the filters. Top

Q:   How about equipment failures or service interruption?

A:   If there is any malfunction of equipment or service interruption attributable to anything supplied by Prolitec, it will be repaired or replaced within 24 hours or within the time period and on the terms specified in the Master Services Agreement. Top

Q:   What types of fragrances are available?

A:   For Odor Remediation and Ambient Scenting, Prolitec offers a wide range of fragrance choices in its catalog. There are more than 500 scents for clients to choose from and the ability to custom formulate any scent to match specific client needs for themes, brand identities and image. In Restroom Hygiene applications, odor neutralizers are available in a range of six fragrances. Top

Q:   How do I measure the effectiveness of the Prolitec service?

A:   Measurement is best done against specific objectives for the service. Most Prolitec clients need to enhance indoor air quality by eliminating an odor issue or adding a pleasant scent into a space. Usually the objective is to please customers and employees. The result is easy to determine when an odor problem is the issue. Either the malador can be detected or it cannot.

In the case of a scent being introduced into a space, it is important not to scent too heavily. It is best to invite younger people of, say, age 30 or less to enter the treated space from an odor free exterior space and to gain their first impressions of the scent in the space. This is the most accurate evaluation of whether a pleasant scent is detectable and its strength. Ideally, it should be detectable but not overwhelming. Longer term, the results can be measured in customer satisfaction, repeat business and the ability to attract new customers.

For example, research has determined that clients wager more in casinos in which the air has been treated with pleasant scents. * Top
