Site Glossary

Air Treatment
The process by which liquid-state air treatment agents are introduced into and blended with the ambient air of an interior space to enhance indoor air quality by eliminating malodors, introducing a particular aroma or scent, or removing airborne pathogens such as viruses and bacteria. Top

Air Treatment Agent
A chemical compound in liquid-state that is converted into particles for mixing with the air. The action of the air treatment agent may be the simple introduction of an aroma, the neutralization of a malodor or the initiation of a chemical reaction which converts one chemical or compound to another. Top

Aqueous
Refers to a water-based liquid.
Top

Concentration
The amount of air treatment agent or product in the air within an interior space where concentration can theoretically be maintained at a constant level. Usually expressed in parts per million (ppm) or grams per cubic meter (g/m 3 ). Top

Droplet
A spherical particle of liquid measuring more than 5,000 nm.
Top

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)
Relates to the human health and comfort in the interior of closed structures, including buildings and vehicles of transport, such as aircraft, trains, ships and buses. IAQ may be compromised by malodors which reduce human comfort and negatively affect attitude, happiness and productivity. Microbial contaminants such as mold, bacteria, viruses, allergens or any other energy stressors negatively affect IAQ and the physical, mental or emotional health of people. Top

Hygiene
As used in restroom maintenance, refers to the use of odor neutralizers and other air treatment agents to remediate odors in restroom environments. Top

Multi-Sensorial Marketing
An advertising or product sampling program which appeals to multiple senses in delivering the product message to potential customers. An example would be an advertisement for a fine fragrance that presents a visual image and simultaneously diffuses the scent into the surrounding area. Top

Nano-Scale
Pertains to dimensions between 1 and 1000 nm (nanometers). 1 nanometer (nm) is 1 billionth of a meter or 10 -9 of a meter. Prolitec air treatment particles range from 700 to 1200 nm nanometers and average 900 nm. Top

Particle
A spherical mass of liquid-state chemical compounds measuring less than 5,000 nm (nanometers) in diameter. Top

Parts Per Million (ppm)
A measure of concentration, referring to the number of molecules of air treatment agent in every one million molecules of air. This measure is used where low levels of concentration are significant. Top

Signature Scent
A particular scent used in association with a brand in such a way that the scent produces recall of the brand and experiences with the brand. Top

VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds)
Carbon-based chemical compounds that are environmentally unfriendly such as ketones, aldehydes and hydrocarbonsthat vaporize at normal temperatures and atmospheric conditions.Common examples include propellants and solvents used in air freshener aerosols, restroom air freshener, evaporative paint thinners, dry cleaning solvents and the hydrocarbon by-products of candle burn.
